Keep Running Maggie McRooney
by Edna Waidell Cravitz

Twelve-year-old, spunky Maggie McRooney is determined to win the sixth-grade poetry contest, but life happens. She misses her big brother who’s in Vietnam. She has to deal with a mean bully. And when Mom-Mom moves in with the family, Maggie has to share her bedroom with her annoying, kid brother. What could possibly make life worse?  Writer’s block!

A retired, elementary-school teacher, Edna enjoys storytelling, clogging, and anything “coal-region” like pierogies and the polka. Her Lithuanian heritage growing up in Tamaqua, Pennsylvania inspired her to write her tale. Edna is the recipient of the Keystone State Literacy Association’s Celebrate Literacy Award 2021—Susquehanna Valley.
