Now Is the Time

Now is the time

to say yes to God’s call,

the time to seek Him

and His will,

the time to prioritize

what’s really important

and put Him first.

Now is the time

to discern

what slows us down

and trips us up,

to confess our sins

to Him and each other,

and to cast aside our doubts.

Now is the time

to fix our eyes on Jesus

and to run with perseverance

the race set before us,

to proclaim the Good News

 to the lost—now

while there is still time.

Introduction
A Growing Sense of Urgency

Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.
Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you.
I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.

Isaiah 41:10 NLT

During my seventy-eight years, I’ve seen a lot of changes—some amazing, others deeply disturbing.

Man has walked on the moon, but we have not learned to walk with one another in peace.

The twelve-inch black-and-white TV of my childhood is now a huge flat screen that brings the horror of the war in Ukraine and the Middle East into my living room in full color. When will it end? Or is this just the beginning of the end?

Our doors are now locked at night, but locked doors cannot protect us from the evil that invades our homes through multiple devices that access the Internet.

Mobile phones and artificial intelligence have replaced rotary phones and live operators. Even young children get connected, addicted, and exposed to things they should never see. They spend more time looking at a screen than playing outdoors. People online who pretend to be “friends” lure them into deadly relationships.

Marriage is no longer a lifetime commitment between a man and a woman as God intended, and sex outside of marriage is no longer frowned on, even by some Christians.

The rights of the LGBTQ+ are protected and often given priority. Meanwhile, the rights of parents to protect their children and question what they learn in school are threatened. Boys have the right to identify as a girl and use bathrooms and locker rooms that should be a safe place for girls. Tomboys are encouraged to believe they really are boys. In some states, parents do not have the right to deny their children hormone-changing drugs and body-altering surgeries or even seek counseling for them.

Our culture has “become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity” (Rom. 1:29 NIV). How long, Lord? How long before Your judgment falls on the United States of America? Surely, You cannot ignore our sin much longer. Or will You stand by silently and watch our nation self-destruct?

But this is not a doom and gloom book. Rather, it is a call to action. “For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns” (Rev. 19:6 NLT). “He isn’t really being slow about his promised return, even though it sometimes seems that way. But he is waiting, for the good reason that he is not willing that any should perish, and he is giving more time for sinners to repent” (2 Pet. 3:9 TLB). He is raising an army of believers to reach the lost—to write and to live His answer. Will you enlist?

Call to Action

  • Choose not to walk in fear and discouragement.

  • Ask God for strength to live your faith and not compromise His truth.

  • Believe that He will enable you to make a difference.
